David Kooger

I’m David Kooger, founder of Texel Compass, a flat-fee financial planning firm for business owners.

Before starting my advising practice, I worked in higher education while co-owning a service business with partners, including during COVID. Balancing both taught me how much a business and your personal finances affect each other. It’s a big part of why I changed careers and became a financial advisor.

I help business owners plan their personal and business finances together, so they can spend less time worrying about money and more time running their company. I also take an educational approach, and I want my clients to understand their plan and feel confident making decisions.

I’m a graduate of Calvin University and Texas A&M University. I grew up in a few different places, but Texas is home. These days I live in sunny San Diego, where I enjoy the beach and the laid-back coastal pace. Outside of work, I love college football Saturdays, staying fit, chess, pickup sports, and trivia nights.
