IronFjord Wealth Management | Retirement & Tax Planners

Annual fee range: ~$12,500 annually, billed monthly

Hi, I’m James Mayo. I specialize in retirement and tax planning for those approaching retirement and already in retirement.

At IronFjord Wealth Management, we don’t try to be everything to everyone. We specialize in retirement. If you have roughly $1 million to $10 million in investable assets and want someone to help you build a coordinated plan leading up to retirement, then stay alongside you as a trusted advisor throughout retirement, this is exactly what we do.

We are a flat-fee, fee-only fiduciary firm in Colorado, working with clients nationwide.

Here’s what sets our firm apart: financial planning, retirement income planning, tax planning, and investment management are all handled together under one roof.

In our view, it is you can't have a truly coordinated retirement plan when different parts of your financial life are being handled independently. Your tax strategy affects your withdrawal strategy. Your withdrawal strategy affects your investments. Social Security, Medicare, Roth conversions, capital gains, and portfolio decisions can all influence one another. We believe the same set of eyes should understand the full picture and be the ones managing these pieces together.

As a CFP® professional, I start with the broader financial planning decisions that come with retirement. Depending on where you are in retirement, that may include Social Security, Medicare, insurance, estate planning considerations, major purchases, retirement savings, pension options, and other important financial decisions.

As a Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP®), I develop a sustainable retirement income strategy designed to give you greater predictability and relaxed confidence around what you can spend and where your income should come from.

Tax planning is built into the process throughout the year. As an IRS Enrolled Agent (EA), a federally licensed tax practitioner, I bring tax expertise directly into the retirement planning process. That includes Roth conversions, withdrawal strategies, capital gains, Medicare IRMAA, and other tax decisions, with the goal of managing taxes over your lifetime rather than focusing on a single year.

Finally, your investments are managed in-house by a CFA charterholder and built around your retirement plan, income needs, and tax strategy. We use a research-backed approach with diversified, low-cost portfolios and beauty in its simplicity. Many firms outsource investment management, which can add unnecessary cost, complexity, and disconnect. We believe your investments should be managed by the same expert who understands your retirement plan and tax strategy.

The result is one coordinated retirement plan, managed for you.

If you have questions such as:

  • Can I afford to retire?

  • How much can I safely spend?

  • When should I claim Social Security?

  • Should I be doing Roth conversions?

  • How can I reduce my lifetime tax bill?

  • How should my investments change as I move into retirement?

We’d be happy to learn more about your situation, explain how we could help, and see whether we’re a good fit for each other.
